The Vineyard

The western part of the vineyard is situated on an old creek ridge (sandy loam on sand) that transitions to the east into pool soil (young marine clay on peat on old blue marine clay). Due to the diking and drainage of Walcheren in the 12th century, the peat subsided due to exposure to oxygen, resulting in the higher elevation of the old creek ridges in the landscape.

For viticulture, this difference in soil is extremely interesting, as sand is known to produce elegant, aromatic wines, while clay provides more body and color. Both soils are very rich in lime and contain a lot of shells at a depth of less than one meter.
